SOUELAS TEAM

We are a team of five young individuals who are passionate in the arts. We aim to create a multimedia capstone project not only to tackle the cultural significance of Marikina footwear making but also to honor the legacy of the tradition by narrating the everyday lives among shoemakers as well as highlighting the challenges faced when preserving the tradition and passing it down to the younger generations.

VISION

To inspire younger generations to develop a deeper appreciation for the footwear-making craftsmanship of Marikina as a cherished part of Filipino culture, nurturing understanding of why this tradition continues to matter and encouraging its preservation for future generations.

MISSION

To foster meaningful connections between Marikina shoemakers and younger audiences through a web-based platform that features documentary films, short reel videos, informative articles, and artisan-led workshops, promoting awareness of the craft’s cultural importance while strengthening appreciation and supporting the sustainability of the Marikina footwear industry.
